GREEK CONNECTIVITY OPTICAL GROUND STATIONS PROJECT

The Obs2OGS project, with a total value of approximately 8 million euros, marks a pioneering endeavor for Greece in optical ground-to-space communication.
Net For Space announces the signing of the first contract and the official launch of the Obs2OGS project, implemented by the European Space Agency (ESA), and commenced with the Kick-Off meeting on January 22nd at the premises of the National Observatory of Athens in Penteli.

The project’s objective is to upgrade the three Greek observatories: Chelmos (National Observatory of Athens), Skinakas (Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH) and Cholomondas (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) into three Optical Ground Stations, thereby enhancing optical communication capabilities.

The Obs2OGS consortium, a cutting-edge initiative spearheaded by Raymetrics S.A. as the prime contractor, includes leading subcontracting companies such as Cailabs, NetForSpace, Xairos, ProjectSoft as well as the teams from the three Greek Astronomical observatories: National Observatory of Athens (Chelmos Observatory on the Northern Peloponnese ), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki – AUTH (Cholomontas Observatory near Thessaloniki) and the Institute of Astrophysics of the Foundation of Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) which manages Skinakas Observatory, the common research infrastructure of the Univ. of Crete and FORTH.

As a subcontractor in this initiative, Net For Space plays a pivotal role, providing subject matter expertise and project management proficiency across a wide range of critical areas.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in Greece's advancement in optical ground-to-space communication technology.
